Tubs are Grossly Inappropriate for Green Super Foods & Cost More Per Serving

The glass bottle provides 10 ounces of Pines Wheat Grass at a suggested retail price of $32.50. Plastic tubs like the one shown provide 7.4 ounces of wheat grass at a suggested retail price of $29.99. Both products are frequently on sale for less than the suggested retail price. Plastic tubs creates an illusion for some consumers that they provide about the same quantity as glass bottles. Consumers falsely believe they are saving money because the tub costs about $2.50 less than the glass bottle. The net weight is 7.4 ounces for the plastic tub. It is 10 ounces for the glass bottle. Thus, the plastic tub actually contains considerably less product than the amber glass bottle even though it appears bigger. Another factor that helps create the illusion is plastic tubs are often only about half full.  We fill the oxygen-free glass bottles from Pines up to the brim! Thus, the reality is the exact opposite of the intended illusion.  Do the math.  The 100% pure wheatgrass in the glass bottle costs $3.25 per ounce. The mixture in the plastic tub costs $4.05 per ounce.  Further, the product in the tub contains much less nutrition per ounce and has a poor color!

Plastic Tubs are Inappropriate for "Green" Vegetable Powders

compare tubs - space right Plastic tubs have always been and continue to be inappropriate for nutrient-dense green super foods. From 1937 until about 20 years ago, companies always packaged wheatgrass and other vegetable powders in amber glass bottles. Many of these products also used special metal caps with special seals. This allowed the producer to remove the oxygen from each bottle. Now, Pines is the only company to use that safeguard. That's because companies  wanted to capitalize on the success of Pines Wheat Grass. To make a bigger profit, they began using plastic tubs. Tubs are much cheaper then glass and create the illusion of being a better value. Here we see some of the products that make the same claims about vegetable nutrition as Pines.  Pines is the only one not packaged in plastic tubs and packets. Unless the consumer can directly compare the color of these so-called "green" super foods with Pines, one might not know that their color is so dramatically different.  The difference is both in the way Pines grows and harvests and in the safeguard of using oxygen-free glass bottles.

Oxidation is Real and a Major Problem with Poorly Packaged "Greens"

For website one- fixed right Food scientists know that nutrients in wheatgrass and other cereal grasses easily oxidize and devitalize. It is therefore important to keep these nutrient-dense, dark-green vegetable foods away from oxygen (or at least in tightly sealed glass bottles) to help prevent nutrition loss. Plastic tubs and paper/foil/packets provide limited protection of nutrients. Outside air and humidity can easily enter these kinds of packages and turn a beautiful green superfood to a dull grey over weeks and months while in warehouses and on store shelves. Humidity also can enter these containers and turn a free flowing powder into damp clumps. Tablets as well as powders show the effects of oxidation and poor farming techniques..

Back to Basics and the Scientist Who Started it All

Charles F. Schnabel, Sr. Charles F. Schnabel, Sr.Charles Schnabel was the father of wheatgrass.  He conducted studies that showed the best way to protect wheatgrass nutrients was with oxygen-free amber glass bottles. In 1937, Schnabel established this standard and others for growing and harvesting wheatgrass. Pines continues to follow those standards. We have followed them ever since we introduced wheatgrass to the modern natural food market than 40 years ago in 1976. We produce Pines Wheat Grass at the same location that Dr. Schnabel used.  He provided his green grass powders to doctors and hospitals. The famous research on wheatgrass discussed in books about wheatgrass were with his whole food powders. Authors such as Ann Wigmore and Viktoras Kulvinskas praised Schnabel and that research.. Steve Meyerowitz in his popular book, "Wheatgrass: Nature's Finest Medicine," dedicated it to Dr. Schnabel and called him "the father of wheatgrass."

Pines Follows Schnabel's Teachings at the Same Location

"<yoastmark Pines International still uses many of Schnabel’s fields and still uses one of his laboratories. We have always packaged in oxygen-free amber glass bottles filled to the brim with wheatgrass and other green super foods. As consumers, we can easily delude ourselves that we are being “earth friendly” by recycling these green superfood tubs. Yet, most consumers do not recycle. Because of that, when we support companies that package in plastic,  we encourage them.  We help them add more to the steady stream of plastic waste polluting our landfills and oceans. Further, as shown in the example, these same companies fool consumer.  They trick them into believing they are receiving more quantity than with glass. These short fat plastic tubs result in devitalized products.  The cost as much as twice as much per equal nutritional serving than quality green super foods from Pines.
