Bee Pollen & Pines Wheat Grass Smoothie

Using bee pollen as food helps some people alleviate their allergies.  CK Hall at Defining Health offers this smoothie for allergy season.  It also provides green food nutrition that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) say is very deficient in most diets.  She posted this picture and recipe on Instagram:

Local raw bee pollen saves me through this time of year in both my daily protein shakes!

1 pkt ISALEAN rich chocolate gluten-free dairy-free NO SOY, whole food complete meal protein
1-1/4 tsp organic Pines Wheat Grass
1 cup unsweetened flax milk
1/3 cup frozen organic strawberries
1 tsp local organic bee pollen
1 T organic peanut flour

Avoid Bee Pollen In Superfood Blended Powder Mixtures

Already blended mixtures sold in natural food stores may contain many of the same ingredients in CK's smoothie recipes. They say all you need to do is add liquid. Even so, CK believes it is just as easy to mix your own carefully selected quality ingredients.  That is especially true for allergies. The bee pollen in pre-mixed blends is not likely local pollen. Local pollen works best because it contains the kinds of pollen that may be creating your allergies.  Often ingesting local pollen can alleviate allergies caused by breathing local pollen.

Most green superfood blends contain many ingredients and are not grown where they are packaged. They can come from dozens of different sources. Why allow a buyer for a company, who is probably looking for the cheapest ingredients, determine what is in your green superfood? That buyer may sit in an office in a big city completely removed from farming. Dealing with suppliers from dozens of locations throughout the world, the buyer decides what you should eat!

That's why CK avoids using complex blends of superfood powders in her recipes. She wants to see, touch and examine each ingredient for aroma and color as well as taste. With a blend, you cannot do that. Further, you may not be receiving the nutrition you need. For example, it is easy for a buyer to cover up poorly-colored wheatgrass with dark colored powders such as chocolate or algae.

The situation is different with Pines. We produce single ingredient products and very simple blends. We grow nearly all our own ingredients on our own 100% certified organic family farms. In fact, one of our fields is just across the road from where we bottle and ship!  The difference in our growing and packaging standards is easy to see by the color of our greens compared to products grown elsewhere and packaged in petrochemical plastic containers.

Avoid green powders in a plastic containers or packets

From 1937 until recently, all green superfood powders were packaged in amber glass bottles with special metal caps so that the oxygen could be removed. That safeguard is very important. Charles Schnabel and other scientists discovered that oxidation devitalizes greens in plastic containers, bags or packets. Consequently, for 40 years, Pines has followed that appropriate packaging standard of removing the oxygen developed by Schnabel. Because of the special caps, you can tightly seal the bottles between uses. That results in the freshest and most vibrant ingredients for your recipes.

Most people do not eat enough dark green, leafy vegetables

Research by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) indicate that 9 out of 10 people do not eat enough vegetables. Because of that, they lack the health protection vegetables provide. Adding a rounded teaspoon of any Pines’ green superfood to a shake or smoothie is easy and increases your daily servings of nutrient-dense veggies. That is exactly what is missing from most diets.  Pines greens are also available in tablets and capsules.  All our products are convenient and economical ways to add more green to the diet.  The USDA recommends that we should eat more vegetables than any other kind of food.

Grown without Irrigation

We harvest our greens at the peak of nutrition. All are certified organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, Kosher, vegan, raw and gluten free.  We are the only Kansas company to produce wheatgrass and alfalfa from facilities not built to produce animal feed for the meat industry.  Our facilities are only used for organic human foods.  We are also the only Kansas company to grow our crops in appropriate areas using natural rainfall rather than irrigation water. Others depend on water from the nearly depleted and contaminated Ogallala Aquifer.  Recent studies show that nearly all wells that pump the remaining water from this once plentiful, pristine fresh water source are now contaminated with Atrazine pesticide and other poisons from factory farming and agribusiness.

Pines’ Green Superfoods are Organic and Non GMO

Pines Wheat Grass is the original green superfood, and Pines is the original green superfood company, established in 1976. Our products predate most other green superfoods by at least 20 years.  We have always supported organic farming and have always packaged in oxygen-free glass bottles. We are the only grower that doesn't practice "dual farming," the practice where a farmer produces both organic and non-organic crops.  Everything we produce is 100% Certified Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified using modern, clean facilities built exclusively for organic human food.  Our products are available at leading natural food stores or direct using our shopping cart.
