Pines’ Packaging Manager, Jason, beat out the competition in the grueling Heartland 50 Marathon last weekend.

For more than 40 years. many on the Pines’ team have participated in  running, swimming and biking. Jason shows great dedication. Foods that fuel him include the same green green superfoods that Jason and his Pines’ team puts into bottles.

Manager Jason says:

“I take Pines Wheat Grass tablets several times each day and put a generous spoonful of Pines Wheat Grass powder into my protein shakes once or twice a day. I feel like I’m doing my body a wonderful favor each time I use Pines Wheat Grass. It also curbs my food cravings between meals.”

Some Wheatgrass Fields Go Back More than 80 Years

Pines Wheat Grass is grown on some of the same fields used by Dr. Schnabel, who discovered the high nutritional density of wheatgrass and other cereal grasses. Schnabel used his whole food wheatgrass powder in the 1930s for research that inspired Ann Wigmore and others. One author, Steve Meyerowitz, called him “The Father of Wheatgrass.”

The Most Nutrient Dense Green Superfood

my plate - fixed leftGrown as we do, Pines Wheat Grass is a nutrient-dense leafy-green vegetable. The Centers for Disease Control found that only 10% of people eat enough green to protect from disease. As a result, the USDA published MyPlate. It shows that green veggies should be our the number one food in diets.

Pines Wheat Grass is a easy and less expensive way to increase greens in your diet. A rounded teaspoon of powder in a smoothie or seven tablets is a serving. Each serving contains the nutrition of a serving of a veggies such as kale or spinach. Because of our growing, harvesting and packaging standards, no other wheatgrass product is as nutrient dense as Pines. Because it is a whole food, not a juice, Pines Wheat Grass is prebiotic. That means it promotes probiotic bacteria to ensure colon health and full use of food by the body.

 Manager Jason Uses Earth-Friendly Packaging

Pines is the only company that packages wheatgrass in earth-friendly amber glass bottles. We use special metal caps to remove the oxygen. This safeguard prevents loss of color and nutrition that occurs with plastic bottles. Further, fossil-fuel-based plastic bottles contain toxic chemicals. Unfortunately, it not possible for stores to avoid products packaged in plastic but quality stores offer the consumer an option of glass.

Certified Organic & Non-GMO Project Verified

Pines is the only 100% organic grower of whole food wheatgrass powder and tablets. That’s because Pines does not practice “dual farming”. Other growers harvest organic foods for a few weeks each spring. Then they return to pesticide-based agriculture for the rest of the year. That is not the case with Pines. Everything we grow is certified organic, gluten free, Kosher and Non-GMO Project Verified human food. For more than 40 years, Pines has contributed food, funds and energy to environmental sustainability, organic farming and feeding programs.

At Pines, we do it all, from planting the seed to filling the bottles. In fact, our bottling and shipping facility is right across the road from one of our fields!

Because of our commitment to quality, Delicious Living presented Pines Green Superfoods with the 2017 Supplement Award.

No Irrigation Used to Grow Pines Wheat Grass

no irrigation - left white

We grow our wheatgrass in appropriate climates that do not require irrigation. Pines is the only producer of whole food wheatgrass in Kansas that only grows in regions with ample, natural rainfall. Thus, we do not need irrigation. Others grow in dry parts of Kansas that do require it.

We are farmers who seek to promote sustainable practices. That’s why Pines opposes irrigation in Kansas and other areas with limited ground water. Starting more than 70 years ago, farmers built and used dehydrators in dry parts of Kansas. There purpose was not for human food but for pesticide-based, animal-grade alfalfa for the industrialized meat industry. Although feedlots have found cheaper feeds than alfalfa in recent years, some  still use alfalfa. One family agribusiness continues to produce pesticide-based alfalfa for feedlot animals. In recent years, they also uses irrigation and their dryer for cereal grasses in the off season.  Superfood brands add this irrigated wheatgrass, barley grass and alfalfa to lower quality natural food products.

Contaminated and Depleted Fossil Water

For more than 70 years, farmers grew most of the alfalfa feed using very wasteful practices. In our opinion, farmers should not grow water-hungry crops in arid areas. To do so requires irrigation from very finite ground water sources. The pesticide-based alfalfa farmers are not the only ones responsible for wasting and adding poison to this precious resource. Other family farmers in that region are using the water to grow GMO corn for the ethanol industry. Ethanol is a gas substitute that costs at least three times more to produce than the selling price. It sells at a fraction of its costs only because of taxpayer subsidies. The waste of limited water is even worse than the waste of tax dollars. Making the fuel from corn uses up and poisons our fresh ground water resources just for a poor quality gasoline!

These kinds of farming abuses have severely depleted and contaminated our ground water. A once-plentiful, once-clean and fresh water resource known as the Ogallala Aquifer has almost disappeared. It took thousands of years for that resource to collect underground. Now, many wells are dry. Worse, most of the remaining wells test positive for Atrazine and other toxic farm chemicals. The depletion and poison build up continues.

Pines opposes these abuses. Pines does not use our facilities for the meat industry. We do not use irrigation. Pines does not package in petrochemical plastic bottles. Pines supports dozens of environmental causes. That’s why Pines is unique.  We are a truly 100% organic, earth-friendly, sustainable, vegan-friendly producer of green superfoods.
