Sprouts Carries Pines Wheat Grass Powder & Tablets

The first Sprouts Farmers Market opened in 2002. Nearly 60 years before that, founder Henry Boney opened a fruit stand in 1943. That was the start of a legacy of "fresh, natural food to all who seek eating well and spending less."

Mr. Boney and his family went on to open several food chains, including Sprouts Farmers Markets. The first Sprouts was in Chandler, Arizona.  It featured abundant produce and thousands of natural, organic and great-tasting foods at low prices.

Today, Sprouts has maintained that tradition and is one of the fastest growing food chains in the country. Sprouts employs more than 25,000 team members for 250 stores in 15 states from coast to coast.

The Most Nutrient-Dense Green Superfood

Sprouts has never lost sight of Mr. Boney's vision for "good food, good taste, fresh and natural." That's why Sprouts stores have always carried Pines Wheat Grass. Started in 1976, Pines is the original green superfood for the modern natural foods marketplace.

Sprouts seeks to improve diets. They know the dark green veggie nutrition in Pines Wheat Grass tablets and powder is a key to good health. In fact, that's the kind of food the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) say are lacking in 90% of diets.

Grown and harvested as we do, Pines Wheat Grass provides the the nutrition of dark-green veggies but in more concentration. As a result of the CDC studies, the USDA developed MyPlate. It shows that green vegetables should be our most important food.

Pines Wheat Grass is an easy way to increase your green nutrition. It costs much less per serving than equivalent veggies. A rounded teaspoon of powder in a smoothie contains the nutrition of a full serving of a veggies. Seven tablets also contain the nutrition of a serving of veggies such as kale or spinach. Because of our growing, harvesting and bottling standards, no other wheatgrass product is as nutrient dense as Pines. Pines Wheat Grass is a whole food. It is not a juice. Unlike juice, Pines Wheat Grass is prebiotic and promotes probiotic bacteria to ensure colon health and full assimilation of nutrients.

Sprouts Offers a Choice of Earth-Friendly Packaging

Pines packages wheatgrass in earth-friendly amber glass bottles with special metal caps so we can remove the oxygen. We are the only company to do this. All companies should do it. This safeguard prevents loss of color and nutrition through oxidation that occurs with plastic bottles. Further, fossil-fuel-based plastic bottles contain toxic chemicals. Unfortunately, it not possible for stores to avoid products packaged in plastic. Even so, Sprouts makes a strong effort to provide glass alternatives for each kind of product. That's why every Sprouts Farmers Market carries Pines Wheat Grass in oxygen-free glass bottles!

Certified Organic & Non-GMO Project Verified

Sprouts shares Pines' strong commitment for organic agriculture. Pines is the only 100% organic grower of whole food wheatgrass powder and tablets in Kansas. Pines does not practice "dual farming". The other Kansas producer harvests organic wheatgrass for a few weeks each spring. Then, they return to pesticide-based agriculture for the rest of the year. That's not the case with Pines. Everything we grow is certified organic, gluten free, Kosher and Non-GMO Project Verified human food.

Pines does not believe in such dual farming where a farmer grows both organic and non-organic foods. Obviously, such farmers do not care about organic farming.  They grow organic part of the year and asl use pesticides on other crops. They seek to capitalize on the hard work of true organic farmers like Pines. Pines seeks to serve to the planet and its people. For more than 40 years, Pines has contributed food, funds and energy to environmental sustainability, organic farming and feeding programs.

No Irrigation Used to Grow Pines Wheat Grass

no irrigation - left white

We grow our wheatgrass in appropriate climates that do not require irrigation. Pines grows its wheat grass in Kansas in a region that receives ample, natural rainfall. Thus, we do not need irrigation. Unlike the other producer, Pines does not grow in the dry parts of Kansas that require irrigation.

Pines seeks to promote sustainable practices. That's why we oppose irrigation in dry areas of Kansas using limited ancient fossil water. Starting more than 70 years ago, farmers built and used alfalfa dryers in Kansas. Those dryers produced pesticide-based, animal feed for the industrialized meat industry.

Contaminated and Depleted Fossil Water from the Aquifer

For more than 70 years, one family grew thousands of acres alfalfa each year. They used a very large portion of a very limited water supply. The Ogallala Aquifer required tens of thousands of years to accumulate. Dry land farmers used most of it up in less than 100 years. The reason is that alfalfa requires massive amounts of water. Further, pivot irrigation causes waste with most of the pumped water evaporating and not even used by the plants.

Certainly, 70 years of pesticide-based alfalfa feed caused a major amount of poisoning and depletion of this precious resource. Other farmers in that region also use aquifer water to grow GMO corn for the ethanol industry. Ethanol is a gasoline substitute that costs at least three times more to produce than the selling price. It sells at a fraction of its costs only because of taxpayer subsidies. Worse than waste of tax dollars, farmers have contaminated our fresh ground water resources for a poor quality gasoline!

These kinds of agribusiness abuses have severely depleted and contaminated a once-plentiful, once-clean fresh water resource.  Known as the Ogallala Aquifer, it represented more than ten thousand years of accumulated water.  Now in less then 100 years, many wells are dry. Worse, many of the remaining wells test positive for Atrazine and other toxic farm chemicals. The depletion and contamination continues.

Pines opposes these abuses. Pines does not use our facilities for the meat industry. We do not use irrigation. We do not package in petrochemical plastic bottles. That's why Pines is unique as a truly 100% organic, planet-conscious, gluten-free, vegan-friendly grower of whole food wheatgrass.
