“Talkin’ about Wheatgrass Juice”

Wheatgrass was featured on “Celebrity Apprentice” when the Backstreet Boys asked country star Trace Adkins to get them some. Technically they were asking for fresh squeezed juice, straight from the “turf,” but if they knew about PINES Wheat Grass Powder, it would have been a lot easier on the incredulous Mr. Adkins. Here’s a link to a YouTube video of their conversation: Trace Adkins meets the Backstreet Boys

PINES Celebrates 30th Anniversary

1976. America celebrated its bicentennial, Jimmy Carter brought home-spun charm to the Oval Office, and we were inspired by Rocky. In Kansas, Bob Dole was re-elected to the Senate, the Kansas City Royals lost a playoff heartbreaker to the Yankees bottom of the 9th inning, and out in Hays, Kansas, a new force in natural nutrition was taking root. PINES Donates Computers to School

ccschool4.jpg

Early in the year 2000, the Caye Caulker Roman Catholic School received its first computer. It was used, but would provide the first contact most of the children had ever had with one. Before the computer could be placed in a secure location at the school and set up, thieves from the mainland roamed out to this remote island 25 miles off the coast of Belize and stole it. (more…)

Lost in the Vitamin Aisle

Vitamin aisles in natural food stores now have entire sections devoted to natural nutrition under the general heading of Green Foods. Words such as wheatgrass, barleygrass, spirulina, chlorella, blue-green algae, and kamut are becoming a part of the American (and global) dietary vocabulary. Treated as whole food supplements, these superfoods are filling the nutritional holes that are often left by busy schedules. (more…)

Wheat ‘Pasture’ is for People, Too

This Kansas firm is selling bottled wheat grass that’s more nutritious than carrots and spinach.

Growing numbers of health-food enthusiasts are learning something cattle producers have known for years—that wheat grass is packed with nutrition. Harvested just before the plants start to joint, tender young wheat leaves beat carrots and spinach hands down as a vegetable in human diets, according to Ron Seibold. (more…)

Area Company Leader in ‘Green Foods’

All Publicity is Good Publicity

In another sign that green foods are entering the general consciousness, Andy Rooney of “60 Minutes” fame, commented on wheatgrass during the March 30, 1997 broadcast. Rooney watched an employee squeeze and drink a shot of wheatgrass juice, then wondered aloud: “Would it make a good laxative?”

His joke wasn’t far off the truth, as many of our customers have said that our dehydrated wheat grass helps encourage digestive regularity.

Fire Destroys East Lawrence Warehouse

A one-story warehouse packed with barrels of ground wheat grass caught fire Monday night, leaving just the outer walls standing. The building belongs to Pines International, which processes wheat grass for nutritional supplements. The company’s co-owner, Ron Seibold, said up to 300 cardboard barrels of wheat grass to be used for food donations and animal feed were in the building. (more…)
